Grand Canyon

Last month Cassidy (the best wife in the world) let me go with the Hansen family for about 2 weeks to raft down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. The group in the picture below drove down to the South rim and hiked down to the river below to meet up with the rest of the group. We traded places with 7 coming out.
*note- The pictures below are not in chronological order.

Us before our decent

Switchbacks on the South Kiabab trail (about 9 miles)

The Groover- This was the bathroom during the trip. The metal container is for #2's. Each night it was taken off the boat and then in the morning it was resealed and placed on the boats. We had 3 for the trip.

This is me and my uncle Tom. He let me row his boat for a few of the days. A few other days, I rowed with my dad, and took the Kayak out for a couple of 1/2 days

Slot canyons above deer Creek falls. The trail is at the top of the slot on the right side of the picture

Havasu canyon

My, my Dad, Hugo, and Mike. Notice Hugo's clean shaven face. He shaved everyday.

I took this picture of my Uncle Tom's raft going through Lava falls. You have to look close, but the raft is in there along with 4 adults. My uncle Jeff got dumped overboard and Tom held onto his legs through most of the rapid. Poor Jeff spent quite a while with his upper 1/2 under water

This is my cousin Jason's raft. He got dumped on the same wave above and spent the rest of the rapid holding onto the green bag on the side of his raft....and his shorts around his ankles.

This is just before bed. It was much cooler sleeping on the water, but not worth it considering how much more comfortable the cot's were. I slept on the raft for the 1st 4 nights.

Me and my dad at Shinumo creek

Our group at Shinumo creek

This was shortly before I got dumped in Spector Canyon rapid. The water in the river comes out of the dam at 40 degrees and gets 1 degree warmer every 20 miles traveled. COLD!!!

There was so much wildlife in the canyon. These big horn sheep were everywhere.

At camp

Jumping off the rocks at the Pumpkin.

It was a great trip. Cass was so nice to let me go. My family had been entering the lottery for 10 years. It is very hard to get a private trip through the canyon, we were lucky to get to go.
My dad and his brothers grew up on the river. Between them they have over 400 trips through it. We ate like Kings and slept like babies (expect for the night that it rained like crazy and I spent the whole night under a miserable sweaty tarp with my dad).
