We were able to do one last trip with our MarketStar crew. We know this will be the last as we are not even part of the HPE team anymore. Shaun Koos was kind enough to help justify my way in as I was with the program for about half the fiscal year before moving over to run the Cisco program. Michelle Gunter granted us her blessing as she was heading out the door.
It has always been so great to get together with these friends in warm locations. We got to Atlantis pretty late in the night. The folks at the resort set the tone for us pretty early on. The room was a disaster. It took forever to get someone to come help us get into another room, and for the entire trip, we found the staff resentful towards us and willing to do the bare minimum.
Despite that, we had a great time. The resort was huge and the water park was pretty fantastic. We spent a lot of time walking the grounds and checking things out. On our first day we went to downtown Nassau. We checked out the straw market, ate a big lunch with all our friends and then walked up to the queens staircase. The staircase was outside of the touristy area and right after we got off the main street, we could tell we were not on our turf. Cops stopped us and check on us. The whole area felt sketchy. Once we got to the staircase, we felt safe again and it was pretty cool. the view from the top was awesome also.
The next day we took a sailboat to a private island that we had rented for the day. It was pretty awesome. It was just us, the beach, an open bar of virgin drinks....and a surprise wedding? That's right. A guy in our group had brought his girlfriend and paid for their pastor to come and marry them on this island in front of all the people he barely knew from work...A bit after lunch we were playing soccer and like an idiot, I kicked a big rock and it messed up my toe the rest of the trip for me.
We spent a lot of time at the resort. The grounds were really cool. There were aquariums all over the place with sharks and cool fish. The water slides were pretty cool, but the best part for us was the not so lazy river that wound around the entire park. It had slides and rapids throughout the river. We rented a cabana on the river and spent a day sitting at the cabana eating and enjoying each others company
It was bittersweet seeing the trip come to an end because we knew it was for sure the last trip, but we went out with a bang!
