White Rim Trail

Bridger and I just had the most amazing time with some lucky Hansens on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands. It was so cool to see this area from a different perspective. We've been planning this trip for a few months and I got a permits for the perfect time of the year. Its been pretty wet down there and we've been nervous. Prior to the trip, the Canyonlands folks had told us that the trail would not be passable for our group. We decided to see how far we could get.

We went down to Moab the night before and rented a VRBO then got up super early to air down our tires and hit the trail. The commander was feeling a bit nervous compared to Dereks Rubicon and Tylers Beast of a Bronco, but decided it was up to the challenge. We headed down the Shafer trail and started our journey. The weather was perfect and the trail was so awesome! The boys had a blast rolling big boulders off the overhanging cliffs to hear them echo off the canyon walls. We had a great 1st day hitting the trail, and made camp at the top of Murphy at campsite A. The camps views were amazing and the night was warm.

Day 2 was going to be a challenge. The trail was supposed to be a lot harder, The Commander was sucking gas, and some in the group were nervous. We took a vote and decided to press on. Boy were we so glad we did! The views were even better, but yes, the trail was rougher. Hardscrabble hill seemed to last forever and it was so rough. But we made it through, and had a great time navigating the trail. At the bottom we had lunch in the sandy creek bed before following the Green River and coming back out of Mineral Bottom.

When we got back to the pavement we aired our tires back up and I noticed a decent sized gash on the side of my tire. We were so lucky it didn't pop, it would have been a pain to change out on the dirt trail!

It was an epic trip and I will for sure be going back soon with my other boys. Once the Commander gets a lift and some bigger shoes.
