We just got back from a great high adventure with all the young men from our ward. It was great to do a big group with everyone, especially for dads like me who don't have the time to do both quorum campouts in one summer. We stayed in Green River and used that as a home base. The campsite was right on the river. It was great except for the fact that we had to take all our gear down twice while the sprinklers ran...
One day 1, we set up camp and headed to Goblin Valley to hike Ding and Dang Canyons. We got some bad advice from a young man who 'knew where he was going' and took the wrong trail and got lost. By the time we found the trail, we had eaten our lunches and drank most of our water. The majority of the deacons turned back to do Goblin Valley while the rest pressed on. I was so impressed with McCoy and Bridger! We borrowed some water from the people leaving and were off. It was a super cool canyon with lots of narrow slots, waste deep water, and 10-15 foot cliffs that we had to go up or down. It was a super challenging 10 miles, but it was rewarding and the boys did awesome. We headed back to camp starving.
The next morning, each quorum was on its own. The priests did Arches, the Teachers and Bridger went to a reservoir to swim and fish (it was a bit cold), and the Deacons, along with McCoy and I went to hike Corona Arch and see some other things around there. That night I made smoked pulled pork tacos for the group, and they turned out awesome.
It was a great camp and I loved getting to watch my boys interact and lead with their young men's groups.
