Grandma Mona

My Grandma Mona passed away at the beginning of April. It's been really hard to watch her slip away over the last year. Grandma was always so good to us.

When I was young we would have sleepovers at her house. She had a big water bed in a canopy with a TV mounted on the ceiling. I would take baths in her huge pink bath tub and she would make us pudding in her special cups. My family lived with her in Salem for about 9 months while my parents were building their house in Lindon. I shared the big room in her basement with Matt and Derek. We had so much fun exploring her orchards and warehouses. Then she moved to Lindon and was just down the road from us. We saw her all the time.

For the 1st 11 months of our married lives, Cass and I lived in her basement. It was so fun to be near her. She always stopped us at her front door when we were coming or going to hear about our day or what we were up to. Us living with her and saving $ really set things in motion for us. It allowed us to save $ for out 1st house in Springville and to finish college debt free. We owe so much to her for that.

In the last year she has been living in a rest home and had very limited memory.  It has been sad to visit her, but been good to have time to say goodbye. We had the funeral at my parents church. My dad and his siblings told a lot of fun stories from when they were young and what it was like to grow up with Grandma. Bridger leaned over to Cass and whispered, "I wish Grandma Mona would've been my mom." He really liked that at one point they had over a hundred rabbits. She was a tough lady who learned to be independent and strong after my grandpa died in 83' It has been several years since I've seen most of my cousins, and the boys have never never met them. My sisters and a couple of the other cousins wore some of grandma's clothes as a fun tribute to her.
