This year for High Adventure, we went down near Blanding to hike Bears Ears. The 1st day after getting to camp, we all headed into Monticello to do baptisms in the Temple. Its a super small temple and our huge group of boys filled up the baptistry. It was an overwhelming spiritual experience. It was so fun to be there with my boys. A highlight was when Ryker was baptizing Bridger and BODY SLAMMED him down into the water. McCoy and I were doing confirmations at the time and missed it.
The next morning we hiked Mule Canyon to the House on Fire and other ruins. There was a chance of rain, but it looked like it had blown over, so we headed out. It was a great hike, but about 5 miles in, when the boys were starting to get bored, a huge rainstorm started. 1/2 of our group started running back. It was awesome to watch waterfalls come out of nowhere, but we weren't sure what would happen to the canyon floor. The other 1/2 took shelter and watched the storm. We got to a stopping point after the rain stopped and waited for the other 1/2 for about 45 minutes. It was SO awesome to hike back with a river going through the middle of the canyon. The storm was a bit scary, but it made for an epic adventure.
The next day, we went out to the reservoir and swam and fished. Then had testimony meeting that night. It was a great camp. we played cards and yard games during the day and hung out by the fire at night. McCoy got a really bad cold about 1/2 way through, which was a huge damper for our family, but overall it was an epic adventure.
